Community Engagement

The Cornwall Strategic Partnership Executive Board recently endorsed a Community Engagement Strategy for Cornwall. This strategy identifies the good work already undertaken by many people and organisations across Cornwall , and seeks to build on this in four specific areas: •Improved co-ordination •Better and more consistent follow-up action •Developing a customised approach •Promoting active involvement

An event was held at Kingsley Village on 12th November 2009 to explore the Next Steps for Better Community Engagement in Cornwall. The full report from this event is now available to download opposite.

A small task group has been established to identify how to move this agenda forward across partner agencies and communities in Cornwall. The group is led by Mark Richardson of the Voluntary Sector Forum and has a cross section of representation. The principle aims of the group are to identify opportunities to align engagement work, to promote consistent, high standards and to build a framework for community engagement which improves coordination and makes community engagement a meaningful and empowering process for people.

Follow the links to download the full strategy or executive summary. There is also a quick guide to the strategy, which folds to a pocket sized brochure containing many of the key features of community engagement activity.

A new Cornwall network for practitioners has been established in response to the recent seminar. This website has been developed to promote creativity and high standards of engagement, and to share knowledge and experience across Cornwall. Why not join the network using the link opposite?

The Council's new Community Networks offer a significant opportunity for local people to be informed about, and get involved in, what's happening in their area. Use the link opposite to find out more.
