The Cornwall Strategic Partnership is the Local Strategic Partnership for Cornwall with members drawn from the public, private and voluntary sectors. Its aim is to work together to promote the economic, social and environmental well being of the people of Cornwall.

One of the main roles of the partnership is to produce Cornwall's Sustainable Community Strategy - a strategic document which sets the long term vision for Cornwall and presents an opportunity for the public, private, voluntary and community sectors to work together in order to improve the quality of life for all people in Cornwall.

The strategy also provides a framework for planning how and where public services are delivered, influencing all aspects of life in Cornwall, including housing, health, education, transport, crime prevention, economic development, culture and leisure.

Cornwall Strategic Partnership has agreed to focus on 4 priority themes from the Sustainable Community Strategy;

Affordable Housing

The availability of affordable housing is a well recognised issue in Cornwall where house prices are comparatively high but wage levels are lower than much of the rest of the UK. The Cornwall Strategic Partnership will work to bring organisations together to tackle this problem through a number of routes, maximising the opportunities for investment, identifying sites and supporting homeowners and tenants.

Income, Skills and Poverty

There is already a focus on improving wage levels, tackling worklessness and alleviating poverty in Cornwall through ongoing work in the Local Area Agreement (see link opposite). With increased investment in higher and further education and new training opportunities, there is a strong drive to increase skill levels, create and maintain good quality jobs and to support people back into employment, raising the prosperity of individuals, families and communities.

Healthy lifestyles and reduced risks to health and wellbeing

Although people in Cornwall are generally healthier compared to populations in other areas of the UK, there are still large inequalities across the county, with people in the most deprived areas of Cornwall dying up to 8 years earlier than those living in the least deprived areas. The Cornwall Strategic Partnership has made reducing these inequalities a priority, ensuring that everyone can choose healthy lifestyles. Particular areas of focus are around reducing the rising trend in obesity and reducing smoking rates.

Resilience

As the overarching partnership in Cornwall, with top level representation from all of the main public sector agencies, it is crucial that the partnership addresses the biggest issues together. Climate change, changing demographics, energy prices, and the recession are examples of some of the big, cross-cutting themes that organisations will work together to tackle under the heading of resilience. By pooling resources and joining forces now, we can ensure that Cornwall is best placed to face some of these long term challenges.

Partners will be working together to address these themes over the coming years.
